This announcement is a little last-minute, but there’s still time to apply! Hurry, deadline is tomorrow!

CarbonfreeDC, a grassroots initiative dedicated to lowering local carbon emissions in the D.C. area, is now accepting applications for an “Extreme Green Neighborhood Makeover,” which will help 20 deserving low-income residents in the Deanwood and Shaw neighborhoods improve the energy-efficiency and eco-friendliness of their homes, in partnership with the District Department of Environment. “Upgrades will include efficient light bulbs, low-flow shower heads, water heater insulation blankets and caulking,” according to the DDOE press release. “In addition, CarbonfreeDC will host workshops in these neighborhoods so all area residents can implement their own money-saving green makeovers.”

The campaign was launched thanks to a $20,000 grant from National Geographic and Sun Chips, as part of their joint Green Effect competition, that awarded five people and organizations for their “Earth-saving” ideas.
